Cooked Chicken Breasts Join Tainted-Food Recalls

The drumroll for tainted food continued Monday with a nationwide recall of Oscar Mayer chicken breast strips for bacterial contamination.

The recall by Carolina Culinary Foods of West Columbia, S.C., involves 52,650 pounds of fully cooked chicken breasts produced on Jan. 9 and distributed nationwide to retailers.

The six-ounce packages are labeled “OSCAR MAYER/LOUIS RICH CHICKEN BREAST STRIPS WITH RIB MEAT, GRILLED, FULLY COOKED — READY TO EAT.” Each package has the number “P-19676″ inside the USDA inspection mark on front and a use-by-date of “19 Apr 2007″ on back. Read more » »

FDA expands its warning about salmonella-tainted peanut butter

The Food and Drug Administration on Friday broadened its early warning about salmonella-contaminated peanut butter, saying that all Peter Pan peanut butter bought since May 2006 should be discarded as lawsuits are being filed against ConAgra Foods Inc., the maker of the affected peanut butter.

On Wednesday, the FDA urged consumers not to eat Peter Pan Peanut Butter and Great Value Peanut Butter with a product code printed on the lid of the jar starting with 2111 due to the risk of salmonella contamination. Read more » »

Health insurer honors county fitness trainer’s work

The anxiety of trying to lose weight can drive people to different paths. Some go on diets, others eat healthy and exercise frequently.

Robert Ferguson understands how frustrating and difficult it can be for a person to trim down. His mother, Brenda Watson, tried more than 20 weight-loss diets and none of them worked.

Dr Lotha asks State Congress to clean their eyes first

Kohima — Nagaland Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr TM Lotha has ridiculed the NPCC’s demand to remove him from office for violation of the Election Model Code of Conduct and further asked them to “clean their eyes first before attempting to clear others”.
