Panama City, Florida (PRWEB) — National Cyber Security Website Portal Founder Grey McKenzie has taken his stand to protect computer users from malware by releasing a new software product called SpyCop Cloak.
McKenzie claims his new software will render invisible all computer activity from Viruses, Trojans, Bots, Worms, Keyloggers and Spyware just for starters.
“In addition to making credit card entry & password entry invisible to malware,’ says McKenzie, ‘SpyCop Cloak includes what we refer to as an ‘Internal System Firewall’ for your computer.”
SpyCop Cloak is able to detect any program on a user’s computer that attempts to:

Security in Windows 7, User Account Control (UAC) and You

Some people just love Vista; others hate it with a passion. Most of the haters fall into two main groups. The first group upgraded to Vista from XP, possibly without running the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor to make sure their hardware and software would be compatible. They spent hours trying to get printers to print, accounts receivable programs to account, fax modems to fax, and so on, and they heartily blame Vista for their woes. Many of those in the second group think Vista is the cat’s pajamas…except for those blasted User Account Control pop-ups.
The Problem
Vista was designed to be significantly more secure than XP, and UAC is a cornerstone of its security scheme. The point of UAC is to make sure no system-level changes occur without your knowledge and without an Administrator’s permission. Even if you’re an Administrator user, all of your day-to-day activity happens at the low-privilege Standard level. Before a nasty virus (or a useful application) can do something scary, like write to the Windows folder, it has to get permission.
UAC popups in Vista can be especially shocking because of what’s called “secure desktop mode.” The screen blanks out briefly, then everything except the UAC pop-up goes dim. Vista’s UAC holds all your other interactions hostage until you respond to the pop-up. The purpose of this measure is to prevent sneaky programs from spoofing or manipulating the UAC prompt, but it’s jarring and unpleasant. Read more

A rare computer virus case involving the Managing Director and an employee of Trans World Movers, a freight moving company, will procede for trial after a Colombo Magistrate upheld an objection by the complainant over the Attorney General intervening in the case.
The Attorney General had sought to discharge the accused without trial by terminating the proceedings. Counsel for complainant, Global Trans World Relocation had challenged the AG’s orders. Colombo Magistrate Manjula Thilakaratne issued this order considering an application made by Counsel Jeevantha Jayathilake and assisted by his junior Thilanka Polgampola who watched the interest of the aggrieved party.
The suspects Suresh Marcellus, Managing Director and Rohitha Silva, an employee of Trans who are on bail, had allegedly ‘transmitted’ a virus to the computer of Global Trans World Relocation of Modera by an email with the intention of destroying the system and decoding the computer. The Modera Police and the IT division of Police headquarters conducted investigations. Read more

Mobile devices and applications place next generation, anti-virus software

The mobile devices and applications are the next logical place to go for the next generation of destructive activity, says Howard Schmidt, president and CEO of R&H Security Consulting.
Schmidt, who is a former White House cyber security advisor, delivered the opening keynote address at ITWeb Security Summit 2008 this morning, in Midrand.
“As we become more dependent on our mobile devices, we’ll become more vulnerable to attacks. A new generation of mobile applications, that are easy to use and financially viable, are being developed, but who is looking after the security of these applications? Who is developing anti-virus software and encryption? Not many people are doing it,” warned Schmidt.

The latest version of the Software Update tool for Windows, version 2.1.0.110, now clearly lists software that can be downloaded via the service and groups the updates into those for applications already on the user’s computer and updates for new software.
The new version of Software Update also gives users the ability to turn off the service.
In modifying Software Update, Apple was clearly responding to widespread criticism that the service downloaded Safari 3.1 onto users’ systems surreptitiously.
